The Macpodz

"Ann Arbor's jazz rock outfit, The Macpodz, throw some of the coolest parties around. With a little bit of everything in its musical grab bag, The Macpodz easily please music lovers, from fans of far out jazz to those rootsy jam band-style grooves. The inventor and namesake of its own brand of funky dance music, coined 'disco-bebop,' The Macpodz pay homage to kinky musical concoctions like the groovy, unstructured big band instrumental works of the late, great Frank Zappa with psychadelic tinges of sunglasses-and-afro era Miles Davis. With two solid albums under its belt and a slew of foot-shuffling fans across the region, The Macpodz impress as only an open-minded band can, taking the core of genuine American music and tossing in tasteful touches of world music grooves and lots and lots of swinging horn licks that rouse and comfort all at once." -RAB, Toledo City Paper

Jimkata

Just when you think you've heard it all, Jimkata has emerged from the modern musical world to convince you otherwise. Members Evan Friedell (lead vocals/guitar), Aaron Gorsch (guitar/synthesizer), Dave Rossi (bass) and Packy Lunn (drums) have set out to create original rock music that is both new and timeless.

Described as Òone of the best up-and-coming bandsÓ by jambase.com, Jimkata can best be described as electro-rock. Combining hair-raising rock and roll with an industrial touch of synthesizers, sampling, and electronic drums the sound is a reminder of the modern lengths that a fourtet can reach without leaving their rock roots. While inspired by the world of improvisational and progressive music, Jimkata focuses on song structure, textures, layers and vibrant world conscious lyrics.

Moon Taxi

"Nashville's Moon Taxi redeem the notion of a 'jam band.' Moon Taxi synthesizes divergent elements into a cohesive, concert-ready rush, which makes Live Ride a prime intro to this vibrant group. These performances capture a going-for-the-jugular dedication that looks for the folks in the back of the room not getting off and strives to make them pop. In their mixture of interesting time signatures, feel good melodies and genre-snubbing diversity, they are kin to archetypal jam bands like God Street Wine, String Cheese and the aforementioned Phish, but like those bands, possess their own identity, their own way of handling the raw materials. What one finds on Live Ride is well played, well sung music with clever, satisfying touches galore tucked into the songs. Moon Taxi seems interested in music without borders, and that alone marks them as one to keep an ear bent towards in the future."

Freepeoples Frequency

Freepeoples Frequency is the brainchild of SeepeopleS' primary songwriter and lead singer Will Bradford, and SeepeopleS' Front of House engineer, Brooke Binion. Bradford, who has released three albums with SeepeopleS, is in the studio with Binion and long time SeepeopleS co-producer, Will Holland (The Pixies and Dead Can Dance), working on the debut album from Freepeoples Frequency, already entitled "Small Pills to Swallow." Binion and Bradford are no strangers to the production world, so expect no less from their music. Currently, Freepeoples Frequency has several dates already announced and are planning an extensive tour in support of "Small Pills To Swallow," due for release in late 2010. The Floozies

A show with The Floozies is like a Lewis and Clark expedition through all things funky, except instead of Lewis and Clark you have brothers Matt and Mark Hill. Their "funk for aliens" will take you on a journey through classic funk, hip-hop, dub, disco, and afrobeat with hints of jazz and even film scores along the way. And with nothing pre-recorded, nothing sampled, and nothing planned, every show is a completely unique experience. Their album, "Live: Volume 1," contains 21 tracks collected from shows all over the country and is a free download off of www.flooziesduo.com. While The Floozies are certainly eclectic, one thing that can be counted on is that every show is a party. With lasers. And aliens.

The Twin Cats

With the present lineup forming in 2004, The Twin Cats are at the cutting edge of musical creativity in Indianapolis and indeed the eastern half of the US. In the past year, The Twin Cats have quickly become one of the premier musical acts touring today. This recent explosion coming on the heels of their latest release, Thick. The album, the band's first effort with the Owl Studios record label, finds The Twin Cats exploring a newer and more intense direction by nodding strongly toward both their progressive rock as well as more synth-driven and trance tendencies that are quite apparent in the band's live engagements. This while still maintaining their strong funk and fusion roots. This period truly has The Twin Cats graduating to a further refinement of their new and original blend of Face Funk.

Elemental Groove Theory

Drums emerged from roots deep in the ground; bass from the bottom of the ocean; Saxophone from the eye of a cyclone; ethereal guitar from a comet penetrating Earth's atmosphere; incinerating guitar from the planet's core; songs of a siren from the bubbling depths of a volcano; keyboards from a frozen glacier; and the trumpet sounds explosive blasts from the highest mountains; thus Elemental Groove Theory was formed. E.G.T. is currently based in Athens & is looking to expand their audience out of state & overseas. Their three track demo is currently available as well as a 6 track live demo; full CD to be released summer 2010.

Michael Garfield

"Super intense and completely focused...his attention to detail
consistently raised the quality bar." - Christopher Gaspar, jambase.com

Michael's improvised live paintings are hand-illustrated with pens (and without computers or measuring tools) during concerts. Each painting grows according to an evolving visual genome, translated from the throb of the house and the crowd into cross-sections of fireworks and undersea faeries, closed-eye tessellations and luminous fossilsÉvivid scenes of unabashed intensity, verdant and exultant imagery written in the natural language of dreams. Reflecting his training as a scientific illustrator, MichaelÕs live art is a field guide to the beings that emerge at the energetic nexuses of live musicÉthe boundary-living electric winged spirits that crash into being through a dancing throng while he is a seismograph and portraitist, swaying to their breath.

Since November of 2007, Michael has painted in a legendary range of situations, ranging from basement dance clubs to field concerts in front of 5000-person crowds to once-in-a-lifetime raves at NASA's Ames Research Center Ð both onstage and off, and alongside internationally renowned visionary artists Alex & Allyson Grey, Mark Henson, Kris D, J Garcia, Oliver Vernon, and Mars-1. He is the resident live painter and concert poster artist for ActionPacker Pro Productions in New Orleans, has been featured (in many cases, repeatedly) at the Wakarusa Festival, Sonic Bloom Festival, Rothbury Festival (as a part of IAMU's ReSOurce Center), Global Sound Conference, Trinumeral Festival, Gem & Jam, and Rocky Mountain Crystallization Festival...and has held live painting residencies at the Trilogy Lounge in Boulder CO (February - August 2008) and the Mondrian Hotel's Pere La Chaise Lounge in Scottsdale AZ (March - May 2009). Recently he has assumed responsibility as a de facto journalist and organizer for the growing live art community.

Brittany Eader

Always darkness before dawn. Everything is interconnected in one way or another, as we are One. Through my work I aim to explore the connectedness of the real and the abstract by creating a conversation between darkness and light. I seek to create visions that explores who we are, where we are going, and where we came from. Creating live, I am connected to the sounds and the universal love/creativity of a community. Through this divine unity a painting is born.

I love ART. I love everything about ART. I love the feeling it invokes, the passion it gives my soul, the escape a paint brush holds, and creating a dream on canvas. Painting has always been my passion. I have worked on charity events, designed t-shirts, logos, studio paintings, posters, fliers, but most of all I love the band playing, the vibrations of the bass in my feet from the floor below, the dim lights, and my paint brush being guided by the music, energy, and fans while painting LIVE. Painting live is the my ultimate thrill.

ok, so i guess there needs to be some kind of explanation as to what the hell we're trying to do here. bunk news is a collaboration of artists finding its humble beginnings in the streets of the nasti nati. still young and stupid, we just keep the feet moving. as far as what we do... we love to see you gawk at trash, drink out of the bathtub, and experience art outside of the and your "normal conditions". germs is testiment to the beginning of this and by no means is the end. but things have changed, as they often do, and we have recentliy expanded our territories. new friends become family and new experiences become movement. we look forward to our future and would like nothing more than to keep melting your face. good lookin out, stay up.

G.U.I.L.D

Geometric Universally Intelligent Living Designs

Stephen Wells

After quitting his day job installing audio/visual equipment and getting turned down by the University of Tennessee for enrollment in 2007, forcing him to take up the family business to pay the bills, Stephen Wells began the shift toward a path less-followed. Toward something he had loved to do throughout his childhood, CREATE! In the middle of 2008 he picked up a paintbrush, and knew it was all over from there. Soon thereafter he painted his first show with Arpetrio, a friend's eclectic electronic trio in Knoxville, TN. Since then he has been building confidence, working with almost every band under the scene, experimenting with new artistic styles, and has kept the progression-a-meshin'. Live art is his fuel of choice. Studio time is necessary but the energy of live performance is a drug in and of itself. Starting with Boombutywah leading into Wakarusa, and lastly the party that was Dexfest, Stephen has been non-stop almost all summer long, and wouldn't have it any other way. Everything happens for a reason.

"Nature takes precedent in all of my works. I have found it to be so grounding and pure; I just can't pull myself away. I like to experiment with different plant-forms as well as geological formations and tweak what I see or what I am inspired by, to my own whimsical liking. I am heavily influenced by space and anything that has to do with astrological photography. I am on hubblesite.org for at least an hour or two every day. I love input from the crowd because they are a whole other form of inspiration. My best pieces have come from a friends input or something THEY see in the piece. It's my place to then pull it out and make their synapses a reality... it is collaboration at its finest!"

Andy Reed

"You have to take risks. We will only understand the miracle of life fully when we allow the unexpected to happen." (Paulo Coelho) This quote defines the current life of Andy Reed. Only have been on this artistic visionary path for a short time, the ebb and flow of the universe has opened many doors for him. His artistic creations combine sacred geometric shapes, a futuristic urban-graffiti style, and abstract colors creating a depth of layered space. His overall approach to art is one of connecting simplistic ideas with ancient and spiritual wisdom. Having been able to paint with some of his favorite DJs such as Shpongle, Tipper, Ott, Bonobo, Bluetech, Vibesquad, Ana Sia, Flying Lotus, Mimosa, & Heyoka as well as prominent bands such as Sound Tribe Sector 9, Conspirator, Pnuma Trio, The New Deal, Particle, Zilla, Eoto, Papadosio, The Malah, Agobi Project, and others has taken his manifestations to new heights. Recently, Andy has been traveling the country painting live @ national festivals such as Wakarusa, Bonnaroo, Dexfest, Sonic Bloom, & All Good. He hopes his positive visions inspire others to open their eyes and awaken to this new world in which we are all a part of creating.

Andrew Wagner

Andrew Wagner, a self proclaimed college "kickout" has been live painting in Savannah, GA for the last three years. Amblyopic, he was legally blind in his left eye creating a two dimensional perspective of the three dimensional world. His art is about the push and pull of chaotic backgrounds and orderly foregrounds, and vise versa. The interplay between layers, shapes and colors in his painting correlate to the dynamics of live music and how opposites can come together as one to create something strangely beautiful.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Josh Audiss

When art is happening in its purest form, the artist seems to vanish and beauty flows into this world almost by magic. When art happens in this way, the art is imbued with a certain sacredness, and I feel that on some level the observer connects with a divine, primal, creative force. I am fairly new to doing live art and body painting, but I have to say that I am in love with it.. Live production of art keeps the artist in the present moment, thought goes away, and art is born, dynamic, fresh, alive. When music, visual art, dancing, and a vibrant group of people interact, a portal seems to open to a higher dimension of reality, and all involved become the creators of a new kind of being and a new kind of world.

Quickly graduating to fire eating and breathing, she has appeared in fire and hula hoop acts in festivals and shows around the midwest. Joining Lacore Valmon, she earned her wings and started performing aerial acts for circus and burlesque shows in her hometown.
